Children’s Liturgical Ministries
Children’s Liturgy of the Word (CLOW) – Pronounced CLO – These folks assist in making the liturgy accessible to children who are in K – 6th Grades. The 5:00pm Vigil and the 11:30am Sunday Masses have this option for kids who would like to hear the word proclaimed in language they might understand better and a homily to boot! We need readers, prayer leaders, cue persons (to let the homilist know that the Mass is moving on) and homilists. We need adults and young people to make this program work! Click here to access our Children and Youth Liturgical Ministries form.
The Youth of our parish (along with one adult supervisor per Mass) welcome parishioners and guests and facilitate movement in the church at all our 5pm Masses as Youth Ushers! Duties include: greeting parishioners and finding them seats at crowded Masses, recruiting a Gifts family, passing the collection baskets during Mass, and distributing bulletins after Mass. Click here to access our Children and Youth Liturgical Ministries form.
Altar Servers assist the priest at Mass and help lead prayer. If you are in 4th Grade and have received your First Communion, you may participate in this rewarding ministry serving at altar! Training is for one hour on a particular weekday evening for 3-4 weeks in a row (usually in the fall.) Click here to access our Children and Youth Liturgical Ministries form.
Sound System Ministry
Do you have a knack for technology and a good ear? If so, you might be an ideal sound mixer for our weekly liturgical services. Training is provided. Please click here to sign-up for this ministry.
Adult Liturgical Ministries
Wedding Coordinators assist couples getting married at SJN! We contact the bride and groom 1 week prior to the wedding, run the rehearsals and assist on the day of the wedding. Training is by shadowing other wedding coordinators.
Ushers assist each parishioner get the most out of his/her participation in the Mass
during weekend and holiday celebrations at SJN Church. Duties include: greeting parishioners and finding them seats at crowded Masses, recruiting a Gifts family,
passing the collection baskets during Mass, and distributing bulletins after Mass.
Extra ushers for Christmas and Easter Season Services are needed. Men, women and
young adults are all welcome to participate. Members volunteer to work at the
Mass of their choosing. Consider helping once a month or sign up for the
Special Occasion List.
Holy Housekeepers aid in keeping the church, chapel and narthex clean and ready for Mass on Sundays. Usually we help out on Friday mornings after the 9am daily Mass.
The Environment Committee helps in creating the visual and ascetical environment in the worship space. On the altar and surrounding congregation space and into the Narthex this group aides the liturgical celebrations through the holy seasons of Lent, Triduum, Easter, Advent and Christmas and throughout Ordinary Time. The primary times that help is needed for this committee are the weeks prior to Easter and Christmas with a concentrated effort the days before these church Feasts.
The Linen Committee consists of members who wash and iron the small altar linens that the Priests and Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion use at the Eucharistic celebrations. They also wash and iron the albs and gowns that the Altar Servers & Priests wear during Mass. The Priest’s alb is worn under the decorative and colorful vestment. Some albs and gowns may not need to be ironed if they are polyester and permanent press. You are called on about once every 3 or 4 months for two weeks at a time to take care of these linens. The time devoted to this work is short but rewarding.
Our Baptismal Garments are made by parishioners!
We have people who help by buying the supplies and those who sew the garments. This is a great ministry to be done on your own time.
An Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion (EM) performs a very important role in our liturgy bringing our Lord to others. At St. John Neumann Parish those would like to be EMs are asked for a commitment of a term of five (5) years. New EM volunteers are asked to attend one of the Diocesan training sessions in late spring and then attend a parish specific training session. EMs also have the opportunity to bring the Eucharist to homebound parishioners if they would like to volunteer for this ministry. The Eucharist is brought to these people on Friday mornings after the 9am daily Mass.
The Ministers of the Word here at SJN proclaim the readings for the Mass. Lectors pray over and prepare the selections they will be reading at the liturgy the week before. Training takes place periodically during the year.
